Anna Fleckenstein, of Wilmington, Ohio, loves candlelight, but she didn’t like the smoke wax candles emitted. In 1996, she began research that led to her line of Little Creek Candles, a refillable gel candle.
“My candles have a double glass liner. The outside glass features a folk scene that remains intact through many fillings. A variety of scents are available for each candle size. I chose uniformity so that customers have many choices,” Anna says.
Looking at Anna’s container candles is like looking into nature’s windows. One reveals a fall scene—orange leaves within the translucent golden gel. A pale blue gel incorporates miniature shells. A pale lavender gel enhances a vision of orchid and white blossoms.
“For safety I chose PENRICO gel, the only patented mineral oil based product on the market. The wicks are technologically advanced, non-toxic, non-smoking, self-trimming and 100% cotton. The fragrances are concentrated and tested for safety.”
Most candles may create a romantic environment, but they give very little light. A Little Creek Candle burns five times brighter than a wax candle and it spreads a radiant glow to a circle about two feet wide with a burn-span of 100 hours or approximately four months.
She advises not burning a candle for more than three or four hours because beyond that limit, the overall burn time will be reduced.
“Everything about the candles has been fully tested,” Anna says. “Eighty percent of our customers return to shows for refills or they buy them through the Website. We discount multiple refill purchases.”
She divides her fragrance selection into four categories: Spring Floral, Clean Summer, Fruits and Kitchen Favorites and Fall and Christmas Gift Scents. Country Apple & Spice, Harvest Spice, Lilac Blossoms, Love Spell and Mulberry are on her bestseller list. Containers complement each fragrance.
The large refillable containers hold four pounds of gel and Anna prices these at $20. Refills are $6 and different fragrances may be selected when refilling. The small jar candles are $10 and these aren’t refillable.
